This room is at the front of the house, from our understanding this was the orginal kitchen. I guess instead of the fireplace, they had a cooking stove in its place. We have already taken out the fireplace and replaced it with a fireplace insert. The insert we used as a replacement is a Princess Blazeking. We plan on using this as our main source of heat. Both Bill and I grew up with wood heat and as children maybe we didn't like it because of the work and getting up in the middle of the night to fire up, but now we are game to try it. Funny how the outlook on life changes, especially when one looks at how much the previous owners spent on heating oil in one winter. (We have acres of woods to supply us for many winters.) My Grandma Ricter would always say, "If you don't keep your children busy, they will keep you busy." With this thought in mind and with the many memories I have of Eddie repiling the wood pile because he was bugging me, I think this project will come in handy. (psst...and both Bill and I like being outside working with wood) Speaking of Eddie, he recommended this insert, and we can't wait to try it. Blazeking is used up in Alaska quite a bit and Eddie will fire up before bed and when he gets up there are still flames. How awesome is that, to sleep through the night or go away up to 20 hours and not have to worry about firing up!
Back to this room, the wall behind the couch is the stairs. Bill and I realized that we wouldn't be able to fit all of our furniture up these stairs due to them being narrow and steep. (These stairs dated the house and were a little unique.) So our builder has relocated the stairs to the new addition and ripped out the old stairs. This room will gain a couple of feet. On the other side of these stairs is the lovely blue/greenish master bedroom...to give you an idea of how the house is set up.
I assume you guys are not living here yet but are not too far away?
