Education on Water

We "had" a problem Houston. A BIG problem. For those of you who know me, I can't stand the fact that one has to pre-wash, pre-soak, or pre-rinse their dishes before they put them in the dishwasher to be washed. So in picking out the appliances for the kitchen I attempted to pick out the best dishwasher and go with it. I found one in the scratch and dent area of Lowes and was lucky to find one of the best rated (per Consumer Report)Kitchen Aids for less than half off and a couple of months later found another one at a different Lowes (happy days).

Here is a link to why you should not pre-wash, pre-rinse or pre-soak your dishes for those who want proof... http://shine.yahoo.com/event/green/should-you-pre-rinse-your-dishes-before-loading-the-dishwasher-1677291

So the problem was that with every load that I did, I would get a skim of gunk on the glass and plastic along with sometimes the dishes were just not cleaned. (grr...I wasn't happy for those couple of months that I had to pre-soak, pre-rinse those dishes.)

The problem we found out wasn't the detergent or the dishwashers it was the water...the very very very hard water. Just a little background, when we moved here and had our water tested it came back very acidic, which means that it would eventually eat away at the copper pipes. So we invested in a water neutralizer, which increased the hardness of the water even more than it was. So just this past week we invested in a water softener. The dishes are now gunk free, our skin isn't soo itchy and dry and there is a very pleased mama in the house (she was pleased before, just a little annoyed though).

Hopefully that is all the water education we will need, since we have to go educate ourselves on other things like a two car garage, chicken coops, an outside dog house/run and holiday fun...gotta run.

  1. When we moved into this house, the water was so hard the dishwasher had a layer of lime inside that could be scraped off. The water heater was junk from the lime build up in the bottom. We bought a new water heater, water softener and dishwasher. Can't live without soft water in this town!
