Bruin has been just LOVING the fire. The last couple months haven't been easy for this poor ole hound dog. It has been touch and go with him, however we have been told that for anything after 10 years, it is a bonus. He has a bad hip and there are some days where he hobbles on 3 legs and other days where we feels quite well. He then developed a cough and from what we can figure out it has to do with a lack of taurine in his diet and it affects his heart. This is his favorite spot in the house and for this ole hound, he truly deserves it.
We all understand that Bruin's days are numbered and he will be missed greatly. We got Bruin when he was just 10 weeks old and he has taken it well when he went from the only kid to the last one on the totem pole. It is quite interesting to see the kids go past and stop to pet him a little bit knowing that he isn't feeling quite right. They all look very concerned when he has a coughing fit and their gentle hands come lightly on his head when he finally recovers to give him that reassuring pat. The kiddos have never seen Bruin on a true hunt, just those dreams he has that he is chasing those pheasants. They laugh at his running legs and sniffles and grunts and realize that he has lived a wonderful life. They also realize that Bruin is just a dog, a dog that has been a great pet, a dog that has put up with a lot, however a dog is not a person.
So we will end on that sad note and will continue to keep you posted on the happenings of the ever changing Fredericks.
Ahhh, Bruin sounds like a great dog and friend to the kids. Your chicken coop is beautiful. Are you sure the kids won't want to keep it as a playhouse? :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's sad. It's hard to lose a pet.
