We truly lucked out this past weekend. We left for Williamsburg on Thursday and were able to meet up with a friend of ours for supper...that we haven't seen for about 1 1/2 years...it made us really miss the times we had together and hope that sometime this summer we can cross paths with the entire family.
I took a chance and got our hotel on priceline.com ... I think I did pretty good for three nights...will use priceline again in the future.
We toured Williamsburg on our first day, A LOT of walking and by 2:00 the kiddos were ready to head back to the hotel for swimming. (if we did it again, we would've started later in the day, since a lot of re-enactments start at 3:00 and that makes for a long long day for kiddos) So we headed out for a late lunch and stopped at the outlet mall for some research on some cookware. Got in some swimming and were able to watch Alvin and the Chipmunks before bed...vacation day one a success.
Day 2 we went to Jamestown. To be honest when planning this trip I really didn't know what to do and where to go...there was Jamestown, Yorktown and Williamsburg and we were told that there was lots to do at each place. Turns out we again lucked out on our pick, Historical Jamestown was free that day and we were able to see where John Smith landed in America and his fort. We walked in the same area where Pocahontas walked and saw the church she got married in. We then went to the Jamestown Settlement and were able to get through all of the settlement and got to our car before the storm hit. We did more research on the cookware and had to stop at the outlet stores to purchase our bargain. Someone recommended the NY Deli for supper, awesome pizza and highly recommended.
We ended up in Richmond for Sunday morning and were thrilled to meet up with some friends there and have lunch before we headed home. There were tears shed on the way home because they didn't want to leave the hotel, leave Williamsburg, leave our friends home...a sign of a good vacation.
