NO, we haven't died.

It may look like it, the buzzards have landed on the chimney and are looking for their next meal...

What can I say, we have been busy enjoying summer; loving the mornings of no harping on getting up and getting started with the day. In other words, we have been busy being lazy!!

Our last project for now inside, the living room. We decided that paying more than $1000.00 for the refinishing of the wood floor was a bit much and we would try and do it ourselves. We have never refinished a floor before, we have laid the wood floor before though. So another project and another adventure...

This is how it turned out. Yes we would do it again, we are overall pleased with the outcome, however it could have been better (we had a little issue of drying and something they call orange peel for those technical guys out there). We are now needing to put the shoe molding on and then mud the nail holes and touch up the paint and we are DONE...YES...DONE finally. We have our couch sitting in the middle of the floor and we are waiting to get our piano and dining room table out of storage and then we can finally organize the basement.

Yes, we have been enjoying the hot weather, from inside the house. Koda is looking to get a hair shave and thanking his lucky stars for the creek that he can go lay down in and drink ... shhhh don't tell the county that an animal is laying in the creek that is protected by all those trees that NEEDED to be planted. We have a mama and her two fawns out front every morning, those two love to run and jump and just be kids, not a worry in the world they have. Reminds me how necessary that is for kids in our day, I often tell the kiddos to not wish their life away and enjoy the day they have. Speaking of kiddos and wishing, we just enjoyed a day at Hershey Park, they have never been to a place like that before and truly enjoyed it. Yes, I am pretty much a very cheap skate when it comes to fairs, rides and arcades; they now realize why. Enough harping on the $170.00 (and that was discounted) admission price for 4 kiddos and one adult, we got there at 10:30 and left at 8:30, road lots of rides and walked TONS. Had a FREE sample of hershey chocolate and just one splurge at the Cold Stone Creamery, a love it sized cup with 5 spoons. Walked out dripping wet to the van for our packed lunch and drinks and enjoyed having some dear friends with us. We had some very excited and sleepy kids on the way home. They were given a taste of a roller coaster and are now wondering if they work really really really hard if they could convince mom and dad on going there next year when they get out of school early ... hmmmm ... mom has to find that tree with money growing on it...it is somewhere in this woods.

Speaking of woods, we are hopefully all ready for winter. There was a lot of chopping and cutting and stacking that went into this pile, but it will be enjoyed come Fall/Winter. It brought back lots of memories for me, since I was privileged to be with my dad when he did this. Yes, you read that right, at the time I didn't consider it a privilege, more like a horrible chore. Looking back at that chore, it was wonderful and I wish I could have done it more with dad and my pest of a brother. You see, Dad was the one who taught me how to stack that wood, there is a way to correctly stack the ends and then the middle; so the wood airs out properly. I wonder if he would approve of the stacking job I did, and I would take his correction if I messed up a little bit (unlike when I was younger).

Black Raspberries, Black Caps and Wine Berries....we are giving the birds some competetion here. The kiddos love to go out to all those wild plants and start picking and eating...I don't love those stains that come back with them that some how appear on their t-shirts. We were lucky enough to have one batch of jam and a couple of meals of berries for our pancakes.

Grandma and Grandpa John were here for a little bit in June. We celebrated birthdays and enjoyed Cracker Barrel. Bill took two boys and grandpa John out fishing at the reservoir and we were able to have a good ol'e fashion fish fry, pretty close to those WI fish fries, but will have to keep practicing to keep up with them...that is one thing that I truly miss out here on the East Coast. There are NO fish fries and if you go to a restraunt, their fish is Tuna, Talapia or some sort of Ocean Fish or seafood...now don't get me wrong, they taste awesome but not having a fish fry is just plain wrong.

We were thrilled that some friends of ours from PA & FL came to visit us for July 4th. We had a cook out, baseball game and a bon fire and were able to enjoy a relaxed evening, no parades and no fireworks, but some wonderful times were had with our friends...we are a very lucky family to have such wonderful friends.

On a serious note, one faithful life left us this past month. He will be truly missed by his friends, family and grandsons. It reminded us about our time here on earth and how uncertain it really is.

This past weekend we went to some friends of ours that live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They live on a river that runs to the bay and they also have a swimming pool, lots of warm weather with lots of water equals lots of fun. It showed us how kids grow and their activities change. We used to go down there and they were thrilled with the pool and diving board, they loved it and spent most of the day in the pool. Since the jelly fish aren't in the river, we were able to jump in the river...one of the kids asked, "Why would you need a pool if you got this?" They forgot about the jelly fish and also forgot about how clean the pool is; yes they had seaweed wars, new hair dos with the seaweed, balanced on surf boards and watched some wakeboard. Next time Maria and possibly Orrin and I hope to try wakeboarding...we will see. We were all wore out by the time we left to go home, even Koda. You see, we brought him along, I was teasing the man of the house that he told me I had to stop bring all these kids with me, so I am going to start bringing my pets...they have a Chesapeake Bay Retriever who is a year old and did awesome with Koda...ahhh...summertime fun.

So what is to come the next couple of weeks...well lots. We have some friends of ours coming over to help us with our landscaping, we have some very special days coming in August, it happens every year and we all look forward to it and we all need it. So with that said, I will get back to being busy being lazy and enjoying that HOT weather from inside ... Hugs to you all.
