Hard Lesson Learned Today

We have one boy who is a perfectionist when it comes to cursive handwriting. For a first grader he writes really well, however if it doesn't look just right it is erased and redone. This same boy really likes to bother his brother who doesn't feel a need one bit to even try and write neat. So today the perfectionist decides to take the brother's Phonics Test and write in dark pencil seven BIG "X"'s on it. The brother doesn't really care, except he just wants to see his brother get in trouble. (You see this isn't the first time this has happened and the last time it did I threatened world war III would break out.) So I took my calming breaths and decided to call the perfectionist to come upstairs with his handwriting book. He brought his book up and was greatly appalled when I gave the other brother the pencil and told him to write seven "X"'s in his book anywhere he wanted...one would have thought I took his next ten birthdays away...I think I solved that issue finally.

I also learned something today, that this mom doesn't really do too much. While I am making beds, our daughter comes in and says, "Mom, I was wondering what you do during the day? I know that you make breakfast, lunch and dinner, you clean up some, but is there anything else you do or is that it?" My response was, "Well, I am doing two things right now." She looked at me confused and stated, "Well, I guess you do make the beds too, but is that all you do?" After letting her know that I also am there for them and help them with their homework, she responds with, "Oh, okay I guess that is something."

So with that said, let me sit back and eat my bon bons and read my book...because my little bit of cleaning got done today, my beds got made and I helped with some homework...today was quite a day.
